Rocket Insights wanted to build a Patients Genomic Analysis Reporting System to run on the AWS Cloud. They subcontracted Wheel42 to build the solution because of our AWS application migration experience.

PROBLEM:

The client wanted to optimize the resource intensive work required to assemble the patient cases from genomic data. They wanted to optimized how their PHDs used their time.



DISCOVERY

The existing solution suffered from data corruption, leading to the use of many workarounds. There were manual steps in the workflow that needed automation to free resources to do other work. The architecture of the system needed simplification so that many supporting applications could be retired. Over a period of two years, previous efforts by multiple teams to solve these problems were still unsuccessful.

SOLUTION

Wheel42 rebuilt the existing system and simultaneously migrated it to the AWS Cloud. It was re-architected into microservices so that new features could easily be added and the AWS architecture was fully HIPAA compliant.

Approach entrusted Wheel42 to perform a market research analysis to identify a new platform vendor that would allow to grow and expand their business.

PROBLEM:

Approach International faces a dilemma most businesses would want to have; they are growing faster than their offline and online operations can scale. They teach English-as-Second-Language (ESL) to over 600 International students and are projected to double in size over the next year, prompting management to plan the opening of additional schools in the Boston area. Due to rapid student enrollment, their current SaaS platform has been stretched to the max, experiencing performance and data-integrity issues. Approach leadership knows a stable online platform that can scale seamlessly is the key to success as they continue to grow.

DISCOVERY

Wheel42 performed market research analysis to identify a new platform vendor that can meet their specific needs. Wheel42 vetted several vendors and applied a feature-comparison methodology, complimented with phone interviews to narrow down recommendations. A new platform vendor was identified, which could displace the existing SaaS vendor but after a two-week log discovery/integration session, it was clear that we needed to engage the existing vendor to improve their feature set.

SOLUTION

Wheel42 engaged current SaaS vendor and helped Approach re-establish a working relationship to help the vendor understand the pain points associated with their platform. A plan was formulated to address the issues by incorporating performance and feature enhancements into their product roadmap. Fortunately for Approach, they are seeing early success with the current vendor and they are now more responsive, making updates to their platform at a faster pace.

BUSINESS VALUE

Re-established open lines of communication with the current platform vendor create transparency with issues experienced by Approach. Wheel42 was able to deliver value by helping improve the current platform without the need to migrate to a new platform that could have been costly for Approach.





Medical research, data, and technology to empower patients to transform healthcare.

PROBLEM:

ioVita aimed to revolutionize the way medical research is conducted. ioVita needed to build a big data platform so that researchers could do data discovery, run data models, and generate data analytics.



DISCOVERY

ioVita required an end-to-end solution, architecture, infrastructure, and a secured data platform to handle PHI. The data platform needed to consume enormous amounts of data scraped from policy sites, medical databases, clinical trial repositories, and from user entered data from their medical journals.

SOLUTION

  • Wheel42 recommended a Data Lake for the data platform.
  • Data Lakes using traditional technologies like Hadoop are very expensive, so we built an AWS Serverless Data Lake.
  • Data was collected using AWS Lambda and AWS Batch.
  • Data was stored on S3 in raw format. Analytics were stored in Parquet files. Meta data was stored on DynamoDB and ElasticSearch.
  • AWS Athena was used to run queries against the data for discovery and to retrieve analytics.

  • The solution was delivered on-time and on-budget.
  • The microservice architecture adapted well to additional components that were added later.
  • The initial launch secured additional funding for the company.
  • The initial launch secured the first research partnership with the company.





Rocket Insights was retained to build a Social Video Analytics Platform on the AWS Cloud. They subcontracted Wheel42 to build the solution because of our Analytics and AWS Expertise.

PROBLEM:

The client needed to ingest social network video analytics from Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter to their video platform but did not have social network expertise to do it in-house.

DISCOVERY

The client already had an impressive footprint on AWS and their existing setup lent itself well to a serverless solution.

SOLUTION

Wheel42 proposed a serverless analytics solution, which was received enthusiastically. The solution was implemented using AWS Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and AWS Kinesis.

  • Wheel42 delivered the client's first serverless solution.
  • The solution was delivered ahead of schedule, in just four weeks.
  • S3 analytics were integrated seamlessly into their larger Hadoop analytics system.
